The Never-Ending Rabbit Holes of the Web

I absolutely hate it when I see some information advertised on a page that I feel might be genuinely interesting and informative, so I click the link only to be hustled into a maze of options and never really get to where I want to be.

How does this REALLY come about? The story for that, another day!

More importantly, I hope something like this can never happen to My Simply Sage. It would really piss me off if it did!

So, we’re putting this in the MSS Rulebook:

If we tell somebody there is an answer behind a button, the answer will be behind that button.

Not three clicks later.

Not after giving us an email address.

Not after clicking NEXT four times.

And certainly not after being bounced through six vaguely related articles.

There is nothing wrong with having a “You might also like…” suggestion at the bottom. There’s nothing wrong with an Amazon affiliate link. There’s nothing wrong with eventually having advertising.

But….

The distinction is simple:

Those things come AFTER we have delivered what we promised.

Someone clicks Tech → they get Tech.

Someone clicks Baked Salmon Filets → there’s the recipe.

Someone searches MSS for How do I copy and paste? → there’s the answer.

Then, we may say, “If this helped, here’s another thing you might find useful.”

That’s not a maze. That’s a helpful next door that you, the reader, are free to open if you wish. But we’re not going to hustle you in there just to get some “numbers.”

The Internet has an almost unlimited supply of information. What it increasingly lacks is someone willing to say:

“You don’t need all that. Here’s what you actually came here for.”

That’s awfully close to the reason My Simply Sage exists in the first place.

No rabbit holes. No chasing answers.
Just simply trying to answer a question or help in some way.

This is now in the MSS Rulebook.

We will not be dragging you all over the place just to get “NUMBERS.”

Simple is not where you start, simple is where you arrive!
